October Announcements

This Thursday’s library meeting has been CANCELLED.  So sorry folks. Unfortunately, our speaker for this month had a conflict and we could not secure another in time, so there is NO MEETING Thursday, October 24th, 7pm at the Danville Public Library.  See below for a weekend hike and upcoming winter activities. Fall hike to Russell Duffin Woods Nature Preserve at Forest Glen This Sunday, October 27th, 2PM   SEE POST FOR DETAILS: http://www.middleforkaudubon.org/fall-colors-hike/ This will be a fairly strenuous hike so be prepared for steep hills.  Bring water. 2019 Annual Bird Seed Sale

Greetings all~It is time once again for the annual Middlefork Audubon BIRD SEED SALE! Wholesale seed prices went up this year due to the unusual growing season nationwide so we have had to raise our prices, too.  We know you can find cheaper seed elsewhere but we thank you for your support!   This is MFA's only fundraiser of the year which covers the cost of monthly speakers and programs.  In addition, MFA contributes to the printing of the workbooks for the Outdoor School program at the Vermilion County Conservation District that provides a week of nature study to hundreds of students each year.  Attached is the bird seed order form for you to use and share with your friends and neighbors!   Please note the deadline- orders must be received no later than October 11th.Thank you! 2019-ABSS-Order-FormDownload

Middlefork Audubon September Meeting – Chimney Swift Sit-in and Emiquon Program

Thursday, September 26th- Chimney Swift Sit-in and Emiquon Program At the end of summer chimney swifts gather into large groups to migrate to South America. During migration, as many as 10,000 swifts may circle in a tornado-like flock at dusk and funnel into a roosting chimney to spend the night. The lives of these widespread urban birds are surprisingly unstudied, because of their inaccessible nesting and roosting sites and their aerial lifestyle.  -Cornell Lab of Ornithology Beginning at 6:00 PM - Chimney Swift viewing Weather permitting, come join the Middlefork Audubon Society outside in the parking lot on the south side of the Danville Public for a spectacular view of these lovely birds up close- we hope!  Binoculars are probably not needed this evening, but feel free to bring them…
